PROVO — BYU's Queen of the Glass got the Cougars back on track Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Gustin poured in 17 points and 14 rebounds to break Tina Gunn Robison's career record for rebounds, and Kailey Woolston added 15 points, four rebounds and two assists as BYU women's basketball pulled away from Texas Tech 60-46 at the Marriott Center.
Amari Whiting added 7 points, six rebounds and two assists for the Cougars (12-8, 2-5 Big 12) before landing awkwardly on her ankle in the final seconds of the game and visibly grimacing in pain.
After the game, Gustin admitted the record was "something I've been wanting to accomplish for a long time," and head coach Amber Whiting admitted the pursuit of the record book was one of her darts to lure the former Salem Hills High star out of the transfer portal after she graduated this past spring.
"Tina is a legend here, so I'm honored to be able to break the record," Gustin said. "I couldn't have done it without my team and my coaches. I'm just feeling lots of gratefulness and very blessed to be surrounded by such great teammates and coaches and a program that lets me do my best."
Jasmine Shavers led Texas Tech (14-6, 3-4 Big 12) with 16 points, and Bailey Maupin added 12 points, three rebounds and two assists. Kilah Freelon pulled down 10 rebounds for the Lady Raiders.
Midway through the first quarter and clinging got a 7-3 lead, Gustin pulled one off the glass like she's done more than 1,400 times in her BYU career. But this one was special, breaking Robison's career rebounding record of 1,482 that stood at BYU since 1980.
With at least 11 games remaining in her final campaign, Gustin has 1,493 rebounds. She currently leads the nation averaging 15.2 rebounds per game.

The fifth-year senior had 3 points and five rebounds in the first quarter to help BYU jump out to a 12-9 edge on the glass and a 17-11 advantage on the scoreboard after the first frame.
The Cougars stretched the advantage to 10 on Woolston's jumper in the paint with 8:01 left in the half, holding Texas Tech to just 26% shooting in the first half.
But the Raiders kept BYU off the scoreboard for the final 3:21 of the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 28-24 at halftime behind 10 points from Jasmine Shavers.
Gustin had 9 points and 11 rebounds at the break, and Woolston added 7 points for a BYU squad that limited itself to seven turnovers after committing 24 in a blowout loss to Oklahoma State earlier in the week.
After jumping out to a 55-39 third-quarter lead, BYU held Texas Tech scoreless for nearly four minutes in the fourth to take a 55-42 lead on Gustin's bucket capping a 7-0 spurt with 4:35 remaining to help pull away for good.
BYU next hits the road for a pair of games in the Sunflower State, beginning next Saturday, Jan. 27 against Kansas State. Tipoff from Bramalage Coliseum is scheduled for 3 p.m. MST on ESPN+.
