HYRUM — Emotions ran high after the Sky View Bobcats completed a perfect 9-0 regular season Friday night against the Mountain Crest Mustangs.
The Bobcats' senior quarterback Carson Thatcher said the feeling was "just straight up happiness" to know that his team had completed an undefeated regular season.
Mountain Crest, however, didn't make it easy for Sky View.
The Mustangs led by 4 points at halftime and held their lead through the end of the third quarter. The Bobcats then took the lead back on Thatcher's only touchdown pass of the day. Mountain Crest's next drive ended abruptly as defensive lineman Seth Toolson intercepted a pass and ran into the end zone for a touchdown.
Sky View finished the night with a 27-14 win over Mountain Crest to complete the perfect campaign through the end of the regular season.
The game was dominated on the defensive side of the ball, with turnovers from both sides, but Toolson's interception and defensive touchdown ultimately was the play to put the game out of reach for the Mustangs.
"It's a dream for a defensive lineman to go do that, and I'm so happy I got the opportunity and was able to take advantage of it," Toolson said.
Following the game, Sky View hoisted the region championship trophy as a team as each player celebrated the accomplishment.
"We've put in the work all season long," an emotional Toolson said of his team's performance, adding that he was "so proud of our guys and our team for making it this far."
With a bye going into the final week of the regular season, Sky View looks to the state playoffs where they will likely receive a bye week during the first round. That means the Bobcats will have two consecutive weeks without a football game played after a nine-game stretch.
The top eight teams in 4A will receive a bye in the first round of the playoffs. Ahead of Friday night's game, Sky View was the second-highest ranked team in 4A, so don't expect to see Sky View in action again until Oct 27.
Mountain Crest, on the other hand, drops to 5-4 with the loss and will travel to Spanish Fork to face Maple Mountain Wednesday for its final regular season game.
