Just look around and you're probably aware that Utah's growth is still exploding. With lots of out-of-staters moving in, young families looking for homes, and dozens of new companies flourishing, the question for many is where to get a home.

One place you might not have considered is Tooele, an overlooked gem west of Salt Lake City. A recent KSL News Radio article reports Tooele County is the fastest-growing county in Utah.

You won't have to look far to find a quality home builder to start your life there — Goldcrest Homes is a local company building gorgeous, modern homes in Tooele. Their England Ridge development in Tooele is nearly complete and is right alongside England Acres Park, which will include a creekside walking path.

Here are six reasons why Tooele is a great place to build a home.

Affordable housing

While the rest of the I-15 corridor is experiencing eye-watering real estate prices, Tooele remains an affordable area. According to the most recent data from Redfin, Tooele County is a screaming bargain compared to nearby options.

In Salt Lake and Utah Counties, the median home prices are $529,250 and $502,000, respectively. In Tooele County, the median sale price was $438,500. If you feel like you're being priced out of the Utah market, Tooele is your ticket.

Natural beauty

The Tooele Valley is a place of striking natural beauty, situated near the otherworldly Bonneville Salt Flats as well as mountains and canyons. Popular hiking trails within Tooele County are Dark Trail, Butterfield Peak, and Stansbury Island Trail.

Settlement Canyon is a gorgeous piece of Tooele history and is home to various hiking trails, picnic and campsites and fishing spots. Wherever you live in Tooele, you're likely to get mountain views and a taste of the unbeatable local sunsets.

New and updated recreation areas

England Acres Park is a popular spot in Tooele that is being revamped to add an impressive new playground area. A mile-long walking path along the creek is also under construction, as well as a dog park.

The asphalt trail will include two pedestrian bridges and is multi-use for bikers, walkers and runners. England Acres Park is directly across from Goldcrest Homes' England Ridge development, so homeowners in the area will have a short walk to one of the best new recreational spots in Tooele.

Close-knit community

One of the best perks of living in a small town is the sense of community. You get to know your neighbors and make friendships that last. Everyone turns out for yearly events like the Bit n' Spur Rodeo, the Grantsville 3-on-3 basketball tournament, local plays, pickleball tournaments, and more.

Perhaps the biggest community event is the Country Fan Fest, now in its eighth year. The festival brings country music fans from all over Utah to enjoy four days of music and camping east of Tooele.

Community amenities

Tooele County has all you need when it comes to recreational activities and amenities. The Pratt Aquatic Center is a great place for some aquatic family fun. There's a leisure area for kids to play as well as an 8-lane competition pool for athletes to get some laps in.

The Tooele City Arts Council hosts events like watercolor nights, craft classes for kids, and a popular summer concert series called Fridays on Vine.

Golfers can access three reputable golf courses within a 10-mile radius—Stansbury Park Golf Course, Overlake Golf Course, and Oquirrh Hills Golf Course. If you like your sports a bit louder, Utah Motorsports Campus in Grantsville hosts professional motorsport events as well as kart racing.

New construction bringing growth

To an outsider, the Tooele Valley might still appear to be a sleepy town. But big things are happening! A new high school, Deseret Peak High School, is under construction and slated to open in 2025. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is building a Tooele Valley temple scheduled to finish in late 2024. And Goldcrest Homes, which was a 2022 Parade of Homes winner, is building some of the most desirable new home communities in the area.

They're also recognized for their style and quality, as they won the 2022 Parade of Homes categories for Best Interior, Craftsmanship, and Curb Appeal.
