CEDAR CITY — An Iron County Jail inmate who was found unresponsive in his jail cell in Cedar City on May 25 was pronounced dead at St. George Regional Hospital three days later.

George William Schuessler, an inmate, was found alone and unresponsive in his cell on May 25, according to a news release issued Tuesday afternoon by the Iron-Garfield-Beaver-Kane Critical Incident Task Force.

"Medical staff and corrections deputies attempted to perform lifesaving efforts on Schuessler," the news release stated.

Schuessler was first transported to Cedar City Hospital before being transferred via Intermountain Life Flight helicopter to St. George Regional Hospital. Schuessler was pronounced dead on Sunday.
