DEWEYVILLE, Box Elder County — A woman suffered life-threatening injuries when her car collided with a train car in Box Elder County early Sunday.
In an update Monday afternoon, Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Cameron Roden said a Mercury Milan was traveling east on state Route 102 near Deweyville about 1:55 a.m. Sunday morning. The driver, a 32-year-old woman, failed to slow and stop for a train that was blocking the roadway and hit a tanker car, Roden said.
The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries and remained in extremely critical condition as of Monday afternoon, Roden said.
Roden said the train was traveling north at a very slow speed at the time of the crash, and the warning crossing lights were activated. Investigators say they are working to determine if impairment was a factor in the crash.
Troopers haven't released the identity of the driver.
