PROVO CANYON — U.S. 189 reopened Saturday morning after transportation crews worked through the night to clear the roadway of snow from an avalanche that happened Friday near Bridal Veil Falls.
The Utah Department of Transportation thanked its crews for their hard work in a morning tweet, which also included video of the workers using heavy machinery to clear the snow.

The avalanche happened during mitigation operations Friday about 3:15 p.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol. The Wasatch County Sheriff's Office said, at one point, the snow was covering all lanes of travel and was approximately 30 feet deep.
Originally, the highway was expected to be closed until Saturday evening.
Another avalanche shut down U.S. 40 in an area southeast of Heber City at Daniel's Pass Friday night about 10:30 p.m. The road reopened Saturday morning about 8 a.m., according to the Utah Highway Patrol.
