SALT LAKE CITY — A two-car collision that left three people in critical condition — including two with life-threatening injuries — may have been alcohol-related, according to police.

Salt Lake City police say the three injured include an 18-year-old woman who was driving one vehicle, a 41-year-old man driving the other vehicle and a 61-year-old woman who was a passenger in one of the cars.

About 10:40 p.m. Monday, a car traveling north on 900 West at a high rate of speed struck the driver's side of a second vehicle that was westbound on 600 North, according to police.

The collision occurred in the intersection and pushed the second vehicle — which had two occupants — into a yard at 615 N. 900 West.

"At this point, there is evidence on scene to suggest that alcohol may be a factor," Salt Lake police spokesman Brent Weisberg said. "We're still pretty early into this investigation."

Weisberg said police asked residents in the area to check home security footage for video of the first vehicle prior to the crash, between 10:39 and 10:42 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.

Police haven't released the names of those involved in the crash.
