CEDAR CITY — Cedar City officials asked residents on Monday to cut back unnecessary water usage until Tuesday morning after the city's main water line ruptured.

City officials said that the water break occurred on state Route 56 just five miles outside of Cedar City.

The city announced that the 20-inch water line had ruptured in a Facebook post shortly after 3 p.m. The post encouraged residents to inform their neighbors of the rupture.

Further information, including what caused the rupture or estimated repair time, was not released.
