SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Department of Health on Sunday reported 396 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the state, along with six more deaths from the disease and 15,861 more vaccines administered against it.

The state is now averaging 507 new cases reported per day and a positive test rate of 4.12% over the past week.

Currently, there are 167 Utahns reportedly hospitalized due to COVID-19, including 63 in intensive care. Sunday's numbers come as 7,397 more tests were reportedly conducted.

Overall, the state has now confirmed 378,379 COVID-19 cases and conducted 4,007,693 tests. It has administered 1,009,029 vaccines — passing the 1 million mark, as Gov. Spencer Cox promised Saturday — and lost 2,027 residents to the virus.

"The state of Utah reached a significant milestone today in the battle against COVID-19. More than one million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in the state," the health department said in a statement. "For those of you who have already gotten your shots, thank you. For the rest of you, please get the vaccine when it's your turn. It's how we get our lives back."

Of those million-plus vaccines administered, 365,176 Utahns are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Full vaccination requires one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or two doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccines.

The six deaths reported Sunday were of:

  • A Davis County man over age 85 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
  • A Salt Lake County man between ages 45 and 64 who was hospitalized when he died
  • A Utah County woman between ages 65 and 84 who was the resident of a long-term care facility
  • A Utah County man between ages 65 and 84 who was not hospitalized when he died
  • Two Utah County men between ages 45 and 64 who were hospitalized

There is no coronavirus news conference from state leaders scheduled for over the weekend. Cox will hold his regular weekly news conference later this week; the conference usually occurs on Thursdays.
