OGDEN — A 40-year old woman was killed in an early-morning shooting on Wednesday that led to the arrest of one man, police confirmed.

Sergio Chavez, 40, of Ogden, was arrested in connection to the shooting, police said.

Police responded about 12:35 a.m. after receiving a shots fired call in the 3000 block of Adams Ave.

One woman was found with gunshot wounds outside a home in the area — she was transported to a hospital in stable condition.

According to a probable cause statement filed in 2nd District Court, that woman was shot by Chavez while running away from him.

A second woman, age 40, was found dead inside the home, police said. The names of the women were not released on Wednesday.

The affidavit stated Chavez was unlawfully in the country and is restricted from having firearms.

Chavez was arrested and booked into Weber County Jail on investigation of knowing and intentional murder, possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person and forgery.

Chavez was ordered to be held without bail, court documents show.

The shooting is under investigation and anyone with information on the case is asked to call 801-629-8209.
