SALT LAKE CITY — In its daily update on the latest coronavirus figures in the state, the Utah Department of Health announced Mother's Day that 148 new cases and one additional death were identified since Saturday.

That brings Utah's total to 6,251 cases and 67 deaths, up from 6,103 cases the day before and a day-over-day growth rate of 2.4%.

The Utahn who died was a Salt Lake County man older than 60, health department spokesperson Jenny Johnson said in an email.

The state has now tested at least 146,510 Utahns, up 3,216 tests from Saturday, and 4.3% of those tested have returned positive so far. The health department reports 14 new hospitalizations for COVID-19, meaning 512 total Utahns have been hospitalized with the disease since the pandemic began.

The department estimates that 3,033 Utahns have recovered from COVID-19.

The total number of cases reported by the health department includes all cases of COVID-19 since Utah’s outbreak began, including those who are infected now, those who have recovered from the disease, and those who have died.

Salt Lake County now has had 3,291 total cases of COVID-19; Utah County, at 1,346 cases, is the only other county with more than 1,000. However, Summit, Wasatch and San Juan counties are still reporting much higher per-capita rates of the disease.

The Central Utah, Southeast Utah, Summit County, Tooele County and TriCounty health districts have yet to report any deaths due to COVID-19. The Bear River and Wasatch County districts have each seen only one; only Salt Lake and Utah counties have more than three, at 44 and 11 deaths, respectively.
