SALT LAKE CITY — For those looking to party on New Year’s Eve along the Wasatch Front this week, you may want to bundle up before heading out.

A winter storm watch will begin late Tuesday night for the Salt Lake and Tooele Valleys, as well as Logan, Smithfield, Brigham City, Ogden, Bountiful, Salt Lake City, Tooele, Lehi, Provo, Nephi, Wendover, Snowville, Huntsville, Park City and Heber City.

Another winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service for the Wasatch Mountains north of I-80, including Woodruff, Randolph, Alta, Brighton, Mirror Lake Highway, Scofield, Cove Fort, Koosharem and Fish Lake.

Both winter storm alerts will be active from Wednesday at 2 a.m. through 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Heavy snow is expected and total snow accumulation is estimated to reach up to 10-20 inches in the mountains, according to KSL meteorologist Dan Guthrie. Northern valleys could see anywhere from 3-6 inches.

The heaviest accumulation will likely be on New Year’s Day, NWS predicts.

Snow covered and slick roads are expected, making travel difficult. Traffic updates can be found on KSL NewsRadio and at www.ksl.com/news/traffic. More traffic information is available at UDOT's Commuterlink website, udottraffic.udot.gov.

Forecasts for the rest of the state can be found on the KSL Weather page.
