OREM — Police are looking for a shooter after gunshots were reported at an Orem apartment building Tuesday afternoon.
Shots were fired about 4:25 p.m. at Promenade Place Apartments, 875 S. Geneva Road. No injuries were reported, Orem Police Lt. Trent Colledge said.
However, he did say police contacted local hospitals, asking to keep an eye out for possible gunshot wounds. As of Tuesday night, there were no signs anyone had been treated at a hospital, Colledge later said.
When police arrived on the scene, they found shell casings on the ground near the parking garage, Colledge said.
Police are investigating the shooting and are in the process of pulling surveillance footage of the incident, Colledge said.
Later Tuesday evening, SWAT teams were called to the apartment as a precaution to assist investigators who were there to interview some people regarding the shooting, Colledge said.
Police watched surveillance footage that suggested two different groups were involved in the shooting, Colledge said. Both parties shot at each other and then fled, he said.
As of Tuesday night, four people had been taken into custody in connection with the shooting and Colledge said of those four, at least two were residents at the apartment building.
Police were still looking for another individual who fled the scene, Colledge said. There was no description of that person, he noted.
Police don’t know much about the circumstances of the shooting as of late Tuesday night since it’s in the early stages of the investigation, Colledge said.
The apartment complex advertises themselves as Utah Valley University student housing, however, Scott Trotter, senior director of public relations for the university, clarified the building isn’t managed by UVU.
Utah Valley University wasn’t impacted by the incident and no lockdown was ordered, Colledge said.
Trotter added that there was no campus response to the incident as of Tuesday evening.
