Wildfire updates: Goose Point Fire 90% contained; Mile Marker 122 Fire 30% contained

SALT LAKE CITY — Several wildfires burned across Utah this week. See the updates on a few of the big ones below.

The Goose Point Fire: 90% contained

The Goose Point Fire, which started burning Wednesday evening in southwestern Utah County, had reached 8,908 acres and was 90% contained as of Friday afternoon. Earlier Friday the fire had reached 6,515 acres and was 50% contained.

Bureau of Land Management officials had said the fire was 60% contained Thursday night.

A fire prevention order was issued for West Mountain that closed roads to unnecessary traffic. Specifically, south of Lincoln Beach Road, west of 5600 West, north of Highway 141 and east of North Lake Road.

The Mile Marker 122 Fire: 30% contained

The Mile Marker 122 Fire, which began Thursday in Beaver County, was 30% contained as of Friday afternoon, Utah wildfire officials said. On Thursday, it was estimated at 1,000 acres by officials.

The Birch Canyon Fire: 30% contained

The Birch Canyon Fire, which was started by an abandoned campfire Monday, was burning east of Smithfield in Mountain Naomi Wilderness about 4 miles up Birch Canyon, U.S Forest Service officials said.

The fire was 5.5 acres and 30% contained as of Friday afternoon.

The Little Bear Fire

The Little Bear Fire, started July 26 by lightning, had burned 1,370 acres as of Friday evening, according to officials.

The fire was burning seven miles Southeast of Hatch along Badger Creek and no closure orders were issued as of Friday. Officials didn’t say if the fire was contained at all Friday.
