SALT LAKE CITY — A woman in her 30s was found with a gunshot wound to her head Thursday about 5 p.m. near 51 N. 800 West, police said.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital where she died, police said. Salt Lake police were looking for the shooter, officials said.

Police said they believe this was an isolated incident and people in the area weren't in danger.

No one was in police custody in connection with the shooting as of Thursday at 8:30 p.m., according to Salt Lake Police Lt. Jenn Diederich.

She said the woman was seen in the area talking to three men and a single gunshot was heard. Police don't yet know the shooter's motive, Diederich said.

Police were in the process of interviewing witnesses Thursday evening, Diederich said.

Further details about the incident weren’t immediately available.
