AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tony Finau survived the cut — and then some — Friday afternoon at the Masters.

The Lehi resident fired a pair of birdies on the back nine to shoot 2-under-par 70 and finish tied for 16th Friday to slip into the weekend at Augusta National Golf Club.

He added a birdie on the par-5 No. 15 and closed strong, tied with Bryson DeChambeau, who was among the first-day leaders; Justin Thomas, who shot 68 Friday; and Rickie Fowler, among others.

Former BYU golfer Mike Weir carded a 76 Friday, missing the cut by one stroke.

Francisco Molinari, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen are tied for the leader with a two-day total of 7-under 137.
