AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tony Finau survived the cut — and then some — Friday afternoon at the Masters.
The Lehi resident fired a pair of birdies on the back nine to shoot 2-under-par 70 and finish tied for 16th Friday to slip into the weekend at Augusta National Golf Club.
Finau has a two-day total of 3-under 141, just four strokes off the lead.
Finau, who grew up in Rose Park, hit the turn at even-par 36, and immediately birdied the par-4, 495-yard 10th hole. He added a birdie on the par-5 No. 15 and closed strong, tied with Bryson DeChambeau, who was among the first-day leaders; Justin Thomas, who shot 68 Friday; and Rickie Fowler, among others.
Former BYU golfer Mike Weir carded a 76 Friday, missing the cut by one stroke.
Francisco Molinari, Jason Day, Brooks Koepka, Adam Scott and Louis Oosthuizen are tied for the leader with a two-day total of 7-under 137.
