SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Many women who attended a recent technology conference in Utah say they felt a moderator made sexist comments.
KSL-TV reports Entrata CEO Dave Bateman came onstage Friday to introduce former baseball player Alex Rodriguez during the Silicon Slopes Tech Summit.
However, Bateman, before inviting Rodriguez onstage, mentioned that his company uplifts women, then asked the women in the room to stand.
As they stood, Bateman invited Rodriguez onstage and asked the women to cheer for him, describing them as his "fans," then told them to sit down and said, "Sorry ladies, he's taken."
Silicon Slopes says Bateman was informed by the organizers of the event that his behavior was "unacceptable."
Bateman said in a statement Monday that "There is no excuse for my tone-deaf words last week, and I sincerely apologize for them."
