SALT LAKE CITY — Welcome back, college football.

After all three Football Bowl Subdivision teams opened the regular season Thursday through Saturday, we brought former BYU linebacker David Nixon and Utah standout Stevenson Sylvester to break down the big plays from the Utes, Cougars and Aggies.

BYU rolled into the 2018 season opener with low expectations, but by the time they came out of Tucson early Sunday morning, the Cougars had a 28-23 win over Arizona.

The Cougars took advantage of a revamped offensive line with new coordinator Jeff Grimes, bullied the Wildcats with the jet sweep, and held vaunted dual-threat quarterback Khalil Tate to just 14 yards rushing.

Up on the Hill, Utah started slow against in-state FCS foe Weber State. But once Zack Moss had left the station, there was no stopping the downhill freight-train runner en route to a 41-10 victory.

It was also the first game in two years for wide receiver Britain Covey, and the former Timpview High quarterback fresh off a two-year church mission was worth the wait.

Utah State opened the season in East Lansing, where they held No. 11 Michigan State against the ropes on the road before ultimately falling 38-31.

It took a superhuman play by a Spartan defender to keep the Aggies at bay, but sophomore quarterback Jordan Love displayed a few superhuman qualities himself.
