PROVO – Former BYU golfer Lea Garner birdied the final hole of the 36-hole Utah Women’s Open for a one-stroke win in the first-ever such event at East Bay Golf Course in Provo.

Garner, a Bonneville High product and one of 15 female professional golfers in Utah, led the 36-hole event after Saturday’s first round and shot 66 to finish with a two-day total of 11-under-par 133 and capture the $3,000 purse.

Sirene Blair, a Bingham High grad who played collegiately at San Diego State, finished second at 134, tying Garner’s Sunday round of 66.

Former BYU golfer and current assistant coach Juli Erekson was third (69-69), followed by Anna Kennedy (68-72) and Kelsey Chugg (69-72).

The event kicks off Utah Open week, which is co-sponsored by Siegfried & Jensen and KSL TV. The men’s tournament runs Friday through Sunday at Riverside Country Club in Provo, following four-straight days of pro-am events.
