February is American Heart Month. Heart disease, which includes heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases, is the number one cause of death in the U.S. What can you do to lower your risk of heart disease? A good start is to get heart-healthy at a free Community Heart Fair on Saturday, February 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Intermountain Medical Center Heart Institute in Murray. At the event you can take a heart risk assessment to find out if you are at risk for heart disease. Learn about the importance of taking an accurate blood pressure at home, the signs of a heart attack, and how to make sense of your family history. Seminars by cardiovascular experts and healthy cooking classes will be offered. Bring kids along for their own heart health assessment, and go in the kids zone with activities, games, and tour a Life Flight helicopter. SelectHealth recognizes the life-saving information from Intermountain Medical Center’s Heart Institute as another example of how Utah Gives Back.
