Rowdy convention start...Trump on campaign trail...Mass stabbing attack near Tokyo

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Democratic National Convention has gotten off to a raucous start, in and outside Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center. Inside, party officials issued a statement of apology to Bernie Sanders for leaked Democratic National Committee emails that suggest there was bias against his campaign. DNC head Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned and isn't presiding. Outside, police took about 40 people into custody after several hundred Sanders supporters and other demonstrators converged in the sweltering heat.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Mike Pence, are on the campaign trail for the first time since departing last week's convention in Cleveland. They're holding a town hall event in Roanoke, Virginia.

TOKYO (AP) — Japan's national broadcaster NHK is reporting that 15 people were killed and 45 injured in a knife attack at a facility for the disabled in Sagamihara, just outside Tokyo. The report says a suspect surrendered to police. He's said to be a former employee at the facility.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The widow of slain Baton Rouge police Officer Montrell Jackson says she fears there will be more bloodshed until people can "come together and unite as one." Trenisha Jackson spoke with reporters today after the funeral for her husband. Jackson was one of three law enforcement officers killed by a lone gunman during a shootout outside a convenience store on July 17.

NEWMARKET, Ontario (AP) — Police have charged a Canadian woman they allege shot a pellet gun at a group of people playing Pokemon Go north of Toronto. Police say they received a call Saturday night that someone was shooting at several people playing the popular smartphone game in Newmarket, Ontario. Police say at least four shots were fired. No one was hurt.
