BAGHDAD (AP) — The worst of two bombings today in Iraq occurred in central Baghdad where at least 78 people were killed by a car bomb in a busy market area. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility. Officials say another five people were killed by an explosion in eastern Baghdad. The two bombings wounded another 176 people.

DHAKA, Bangladesh (AP) — The area around a restaurant in the diplomatic zone of the Bangladeshi capital remains blocked as security officials search for clues to the criminal masterminds who might have orchestrated an attack that left 28 people dead, including six attackers and 20 of the hostages. Officials say five of the attackers were Bangladeshis from a banned domestic group, though the Islamic State group claimed responsibility.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates is warning its citizens to avoid wearing traditional garments when traveling abroad after an Emirati man was handcuffed in Ohio over terrorism fears. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a tweet late yesterday that Emiratis should avoid wearing the garments for their safety. A separate ministry statement urged women to abide by bans on face veils in parts of Europe.

BEIJING (AP) — The disputed South China Sea is the focal point of possible tension. China has announced that starting Tuesday, it will hold seven-day military drills around disputed islands. That's the same day of an expected arbitration court ruling on Beijing's sweeping claims. China is boycotting the case. China regularly holds military exercises in the South China Sea.

NEW YORK (AP) — Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel has died. He was 87. Wiesel shared his harrowing experience at Auschwitz as a teenager through his classic memoir "Night." He went on to write many other books, lecture worldwide and become a living reminder of the Nazis' atrocities. His death was announced yesterday by Israel's Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial.
