St. George golfer Jay Don Blake put himself in position to win a major on the PGA’s Champions Tour, starting Sunday just three shots back of leader Bernhard Langer.
Blake shot 6-over-par 76 in the final round to finish at 7-over 287 and tied for ninth at the Senior Players Championship at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
On the par-3 eighth hole, Blake knocked down a birdie to get to 1-over-par and two shots off the lead.
But on the 10th hole, it all started to unravel. Blake lost his hat and the ball on an approach shot into 30-mile-per-hour winds. He took a double-bogey there, and finished 7-over and six shots back of the winner.
Langer won the event with a 2-over 73 on Sunday to finish with a four-day total of 281. Miguel Angel Jimenez and Joe Durant finished tied for second at 282.
