RICHFIELD — Back in 2006, Panguitch girls basketball coach Curtis Barney won the school's seventh 1A state title. But he wanted more, and told his team that 10 was the magic number.
Mission accomplished.
The Bobcats captured their 11th state title in school history, and 10th under Barney, with a 34-19 win over Duchesne in the Class 1A state final Saturday at the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield.
"I'm a little emotional tonight, because that's a big one," Barney said while fighting back tears. "We accomplished my goal."
Chesney Campbell scored 12 points, and the Bobcats held the Eagles to eight second-half points in winning their third-straight 1A state title. Whitnee Orton added nine points for Panguitch (24-2).
Campbell was named the 1A tournament MVP.
Barney wasn't making an early pronouncement of retirement with his comment — he was just pointing out the special team he's had, especially a senior class that has now won three straight titles.
"I told the girls I wouldn't quit coaching even if we lost, and we've got some dang good girls sitting over there," Barney said. "I don't want to abandon them. But we'll see."
Panguitch took a 21-11 lead into halftime. But then the Bobcats put on a defensive clinic, holding the Eagles (21-5) to eight second-half points.

The offense wasn't always pretty, but the Bobcats ended the game on a 6-1 run in the fourth quarter.
"We knew that if we held them under 20 we could do it," Panguitch post Taylor Bennett said. "We knew we had the defense to do it."
The Bobcats won their first-round game against Piute by just five points, then cruised through their next three matchups primarily on the back of a stifling defense.
Melissa Robinson scored six points for Duchesne, and the Bobcats held Eagles leading scorer Mashaylee Giles to just two points.
