PATHANKOT, India (AP) — There are reports of fresh gunfire today as Indian security forces try to comb a major air force base near the border with Pakistan after an attack by suspected militants that killed seven troops and four attackers. The attack is seen as an attempt to undo recent improvements in the relationship between archrivals India and Pakistan.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (AP) — The U.S. has decided a drone base it has in southern Ethiopia is no longer necessary. U.S. Embassy Spokesman in Ethiopia David Kennedy told The Associated Press by email that a decision has been reached that the facilities are to be closed. Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani (hah-SAHN' roh-HAH'-nee) has called an attack on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran "unjustifiable" while also condemning the execution. He called the embassy attackers "extremists."

MOSCOW (AP) — News reports cite witnesses who say an explosion preceded a fire in a wooden apartment building in a small Russian town that killed six people, including four preschool-age children. The emergencies ministry said twenty people were evacuated from the 99-year-old two-story building, which was destroyed.

BERLIN (AP) — The governor of Bavaria in Germany says the United States is partly to blame for the crisis of refugees and other migrants trying to reach Europe. He's also calling for limits on the number Germany takes in. He says Germany has the U.S. to thank "for many of the problems that are causing people to flee." Meanwhile, the Turkish coast guard has rescued 57 people stranded after attempting to reach Greece.
