FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) — President Barack Obama has told military service members the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terror attacks is a solemn day and he wants to use it to make sure those killed are never forgotten. He also says the U.S. still faces significant threats. Obama met with troops at Fort Meade in Maryland today and took questions through social media from those overseas.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The streets of California's capital city are lined with American flags, for a parade to celebrate three hometown heroes while also remembering the victims of the 9/11 attacks. A float in Sacramento carried the three men who last month foiled a gunman's attack on a high-speed passenger train while they vacationed in Europe.

PHOENIX (AP) — Arizona authorities say they're focusing on one of the two people detained for questioning in a string of Phoenix freeway shootings. The man and woman were in an SUV when they were detained today at a convenience store near Interstate 10. However, a Department of Public Safety spokesman says only the man is of interest to investigators.

NEW YORK (AP) — After stumbling earlier in the day, stocks have finished the day moderately higher. But energy stocks didn't join the advance and fell along with the price of oil. This, after Goldman Sachs said a global glut of oil could push prices as low as $20 a barrel. The Dow industrials gained 102 points. The S&P 500 increased eight points. The Nasdaq composite climbed 26.
