PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — A 35-year-old teacher is on paid administrative leave and is being investigated by the state's licensing agency for educators after a student said he had sex with her the morning of her graduation.
The East Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1IpJRpV) a student told detectives in September 2014 that she was 18 years old and had signed her exit papers from school when she had sex with her former coach and teacher Jake McElligott, who was unresponsive to requests for comment.
McElligott taught at Armand Larive Middle School and coached at Hermiston High School last year. District officials say McElligott will be on administrative leave until the conclusion of an unspecified Teacher Standards and Practices Commission investigation.
The former Morrow County School District teacher was investigated by the Morrow County Sheriff's Office in a separate sex crime case, but was not charged.
