DETROIT (AP) — The Michigan Supreme Court has ordered the removal of Detroit Judge Brenda Sanders due to mental illness.

The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/1LJFlty ) the court in an order Wednesday agreed with a March recommendation from the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission. The commission said Brenda Sanders' mental disability prevents her from performing her 36th District Court duties.

Sanders was on medical leave for months before the Michigan Supreme Court suspended her without pay in September. Investigators said she was unable to do her job because of paranoid delusions. She was re-elected in November.

Her attorney, Cyril Hall, said Wednesday night there wouldn't be an appeal. He called it a "sad situation."

Sanders said in an email, however, that the ruling is "fraudulent and unfounded." She says she plans to pursue "legal remedies."
