CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Cavaliers have a 2-1 lead in the NBA Finals after LeBron James contributed 40 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists in a 96-91 triumph over the Golden State Warriors. Matthew Dellavedova added 20 points for the Cavaliers, including a three-point play after the Warriors had cut a 20-point, second-half deficit to one with about 2 ½ minutes to play. Stephen (STEH'-fehn) Curry hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 27 points for the Warriors, who stay in Cleveland for Game 4 tomorrow night.
NEW YORK (AP) — The San Francisco Giants are the first major league team to toss no-hitters in four consecutive seasons since Sandy Koufax did it for the Dodgers from 1962-65. Chris Heston continued the Giants' no-hit streak in a 5-0 win over the New York Mets, allowing no walks and hitting three batters. Tim Lincecum (LIHN'-seh-kuhm) tossed no-hitters the last two seasons after Matt Cain's perfect game in 2012.
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs and free-agent reliever Rafael Soriano have agreed to a minor league contract that would be worth up to $4.1 million if he's added to the major league roster. The 35-year-old right-hander has 207 saves and a 2.85 ERA in 585 major league appearances. His deal includes $4 million in performance bonuses.
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer took snaps and made throws in 11-on-11 drills on the first day of the team's three-day minicamp. Palmer worked a full practice yesterday as he tries to come back from a season-ending torn ACL suffered in a game last November. Palmer admitted to feeling rusty, though he did make some strong and accurate deep throws.
DETROIT (AP) — Jeff Blashill (BLA'-shil) has been named the new coach of the Detroit Red Wings, ending a fairly unsuspenseful search that began when Mike Babcock left last month to take over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Blashill has coached Detroit's minor league affiliate in Grand Rapids for the past three seasons and was an obvious candidate for the Red Wings once Babcock left. Blashill led Grand Rapids to the Calder Cup in 2013.
