SALT LAKE CITY — While half of the Jazz's active roster was made up of rookies at the end of last season, Utah finished with no representatives in the NBA's two All-Rookie teams.
Rodney Hood finished with the 11th most points in the NBA's voting, with 52 second-team votes and one first-team vote. Dante Exum finished 14th, with 11 second-team votes and three first-team votes. Joe Ingles finished tied for 23rd, with two second-team votes.
Minnesota's Andrew Wiggins finished with the most votes, unanimously voted to the first team by all 130 media voters. Nikola Mirotic finished second, with 128 first-team votes and two second-team votes. Nerlens Noel, Elfrid Payton and Jordan Clarkson round out the All-Rookie First Team.
Marcus Smart, Zach Lavine, Bojan Bogdanovic, Jusuf Nurkic and Langston Galloway received enough votes to make the All-Rookie Second Team. Galloway finished with 18 more points than Hood, who had the most votes among players left off both teams.
Hood was likely relegated to 11th due to injuries that cost him 32 games last season, limiting him to 1,064 minutes. All 10 members of the All-Rookie first and second teams had more. And while Exum and Ingles had larger roles on Utah's squad, Exum's shooting (under 35 percent from the field), and Ingles' low usage prevented them from gaining voters' attention.
Still, there are real arguments that, had defense been taken into equal consideration, the Jazz would have a representative on the teams. Despite being rookies, Ingles, Exum and Hood were all integral parts of Utah's vastly improved defense. Lavine, Bogdanovic and Galloway, on the other hand, are generally considered poor defenders.
