36 dead in Iraq prison break...Liberia Ebola free...NKorea claims sub-launched missile

BAGHDAD (AP) — A spokesman for Iraq's Interior Ministry says 36 people, including six guard have been killed in a prison escape in eastern Iraq. Officials say inmates overpowered guards and took their weapons after starting a fight to draw the guards in. Officials say the prison holds hundreds of inmates and some of the escapees are terror suspects.

MONROVIA, Liberia (AP) — Liberia has now gone double the maximum incubation period without a new case, and the World Health Organization says the country is now free of the deadly Ebola virus. The same can't be said elsewhere in West Africa. New cases have been reported this week in neighboring Sierra Leone and in Guinea, the other two countries hit hardest by the worst Ebola outbreak in history.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea ratcheted up its military posture today. Pyongyang says leader Kim Jong Un was in attendance for the North's first successful submarine-launched missile test, Later, South Korean military officials said North Korea also test-fired three anti-ship cruise missiles into its eastern sea.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — The flag-draped coffins of four foreign dignitaries have arrived in Pakistan's capital along with the bodies of three crewmembers who also died in a helicopter crash in the country's north. Ambassadors from the Philippines and Norway and the wives of the ambassadors from Malaysia and Indonesia were killed. A dozen survivors also returned to Islamabad. A day of mourning was declared today.

MIAMI (AP) — Parts of the Carolinas could be in for an early surprise ahead of the official hurricane season. Winds have increased to 60 mph and Ana is now a tropical storm. Warnings are up from south Santee River in South Carolina to Cape Lookout, North Carolina. As many as 6 inches of rain could fall. The Plains states are also waiting for heavy rain and possible tornadoes while snow is possible in South Dakota and the Nebraska panhandle.
