Gary Herbert, and legislative leaders are meeting with federal officials in Washington, D.C., today to seek a deal that limits the costs of expanding Medicaid and earns support from conservative state lawmakers. House Republicans rejected a deal that Herbert struck with federal officials last year.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Prison Relocation Commission will hold a series of public hearings as they search for a site for a new state prison. Hearings will be held in Salt Lake City, Grantsville and Eagle Mountain. Commission chairman Brad Wilson says they want the process to be transparent and include public feedback.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Opening arguments begin today in the trial of four men accused of riding ATVs on an illegal trail in Recapture Canyon to protest what they called federal government overreach. About 50 people rode on the illegal trail that cuts through ruins that are nearly 2,000 years old and were left behind by Ancestral Puebloans. The four have pleaded not guilty.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Mitt Romney is scheduled to speak at Utah Valley University graduation tomorrow. University officials say that more than 5,000 graduating students and their families will hear from the former Republican presidential candidate during the ceremony in Orem. UVU President Matthew Holland has said that student leaders asked the university to invite Romney.
