CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A legislative committee today is hearing a bill that would dramatically change the Nevada Public Employees' Retirement System. The measure would add a defined contribution option that would limit pension payouts based on how much money public employees contribute. PERS says it has multiple concerns about the bill.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Gasoline prices in Nevada have dropped about a dime over the past month to $2.78 per gallon. AAA Nevada says the cheapest gas is in Carson City, averaging $2.66 per gallon. That's 25 cents less than Reno's $2.91. Las Vegas is averaging $2.76, North Las Vegas is at $2.75, Henderson $2.77 and Sparks $2.90. The only town to report a monthly increase was Elko — a 24-cent jump to $2.71.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Firefighters have contained about half of a wildfire in Northern California that started two days ago. But it threatens no homes on the edge of the Plumas National Forest northwest of Reno. The Forest Service says there's no report of injuries from the blaze. Strong winds pushed it onto the national forest. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — The U.S. Agriculture Department has declared Elko and Eureka counties natural disaster areas due to the lingering drought. The order also makes emergency low-interest loans available to farmers, ranchers and businesses in parts of neighboring Idaho and Utah.
