FAIRDALE, Ill. (AP) — Emergency officials in the little town of Fairdale, Illinois, say they are confident everyone has been accounted for after a direct hit by a massive tornado last night. Two women didn't survive. Meteorologists say several tornadoes struck the area and one of them had winds close to 200 mph. Much of Fairdale was smashed and there was damage in nearby Rochelle.

WASHINGTON (AP) — According to those who know, there will be no bands and bunting-draped stage when Hillary Rodham Clinton launches her campaign. Instead, her announcement of a presidential bid is expected Sunday with a video on social media. The former first lady, senator and secretary of state will then turn to states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, looking to connect directly with voters in small, intimate settings.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — A sheriff in San Bernardino, California, has placed 10 deputies on administrative leave because of their role in the violent arrest of a man who attempted to flee on a stolen horse. After the man fell from the horse, he was zapped with a stun gun and then kicked and in the head and crotch while face-down with his arms extended. It was captured by a KNBC-TV helicopter. The FBI is investigating.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A man charged with killing a Census Bureau guard in suburban Washington has a history of violence including manslaughter and assaulting his girlfriend. Ronald Anderson was arrested and released on the same day in February in the assault case. Police say he took the same 20-year-old woman at gunpoint from her home yesterday and that she was being held when he shot the guard. He and an officer were wounded in an exchange of gunfire after a car chase into nearby Washington.

NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York say four elderly people have been found dead in a home today in an apparent carbon monoxide poisoning after a car was left running in an attached garage. They were found at a home in Queens when a relative went to check on them because they hadn't answered the phone.
