SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff, who faces nine felony charges in a bribery case, has begun launching online video advertisements touting his law practice. His first minute-long ad posted on YouTube focuses on his services as criminal defense lawyer and hints at Shurtleff's own ongoing legal case. Shurtleff says the charges against him are just accusations and that in the meantime, he has legal experience to offer.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Lawyers for a man accused in a fatal hammer attack will decide in June whether to ask for a mental health evaluation in the case. Gerardo E. Perez appeared in a Salt Lake City courtroom today. He is being held on $1.5 million bail. Police say the 19-year-old had been wandering the neighborhood just before the random attack, making noises that witnesses described as zombie-like.

OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A father says the city of Ogden is demanding that he remove the cardboard castle he built for his children. The Ogden Standard-Examiner reports that Jeremy Trentelman constructed the box fort in his front yard with his 3-year-old son. Trentelman said he came home last week to a notice telling him to remove the "waste materials or junk" within 15 days or pay a $125 fine. The code enforcement office says it received an anonymous complaint.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Democratic state Sen. Jim Dabakis announced Monday that he will run for mayor of Salt Lake City this year. Dabakis says he decided to run to make a larger impact than he can in the overwhelmingly Republican statehouse.
