WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The Palm Beach County School District reports that officials evacuated a middle school after a possible chemical incident.

Emergency management officials say about 60 people in two connected science classrooms at Jeaga Middle School were complaining Friday of irritation to their eyes and throats.

After students and teachers were moved to a playground area outside the school, officials say most of their symptoms seemed to go away. Nine faculty members and students were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation, but officials say all of their issues were minor.

The Palm Beach Post (http://goo.gl/gBYl9w ) reports that hazmat crews respond to test the area. Authorities don't believe there was any criminal activity but will continue to investigate.

Jeaga Middle School has an enrollment of about 1,200 students.
