LAS VEGAS (AP) — The Clarion Hotel and Casino off the Las Vegas Strip will be demolished in an early-morning implosion Feb. 10. The 200-room 12-story hotel sits between the Las Vegas Strip and the convention center in the shadow of the Riviera and Encore hotel casinos. It's been known as the Debbie Reynolds, Greek Isles, Paddlewheel, Royal Americana and Royal Inn.
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (AP) — Investigators say DNA evidence has linked an Oregon prison inmate to at least two of five killings of young women that terrified the San Francisco Bay Area for four months in 1976. The San Mateo district attorney's office says 66-year-old Rodney Halbower is also being investigated for the rest of the killings and the death of a teenager in Reno.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Federal prosecutors say a 44-year-old physician who had offices in Nevada and the Syracuse, New York, area has pleaded guilty to scamming more than $80,000 from Medicare claims filed in central New York. The U.S. Attorney's office says 55-year-old Mahesh Kuthuru submitted bills to Medicare saying that he saw patients in New York at times when he was in Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Organizers say volunteers are still needed for next week's eighth annual effort to count every person living on the streets in and around Las Vegas. The Southern Nevada Homeless Census is scheduled overnight next Tuesday evening to Wednesday morning. The 2014 homeless census found more than 9,400 homeless people staying in shelters or on the streets.
