CANYON CITY, Idaho (AP) — A man who escaped a police standoff in Caldwell in August has pleaded guilty to eluding authorities. Twenty-seven-year-old Fabian Salinas also pleaded guilty to rioting in jail following his arrest. Both are felonies. He'll be sentenced in March. The Idaho Press-Tribune reports Caldwell he was arrested in Meridian.
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Officials in British Columbia say helicopter gunners will shoot up to 24 wolves just north of the Idaho border in an effort to save a caribou herd from extinction. The Spokesman Review reports that officials announced the plan to save the southern Selkirk Mountains woodland caribou this week. The caribou are listed as endangered species in the U.S. and British Columbia.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Officials are warning that the avalanche danger in the mountains of North Idaho will increase over the weekend. The Spokesman Review reports that snow recently fell in the mountains and the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center says the risk of a slide will increase as a new Pacific storm arrives in the region. The National Weather Service issued an avalanche warning for tomorrow and Monday for the mountains of Bonner, Boundary and Shoshone counties.
BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) — Police believe weather is to blame for a crash involving dozens of vehicles that forced the closure of a long stretch of Interstate 84 in eastern Oregon. Oregon State Police say four people were hurt in the crash east of Baker City. He says injuries range from minor to serious, but there were no fatalities.
