IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (AP) — State officials say they plan to fine the federal government $3,600 a day for missing a Dec. 31 deadline to remove 900,000 gallons of liquid nuclear waste from a southeast Idaho nuclear facility. Idaho officials tell the Post Register that three 50-year-old tanks are no longer supposed to be used for storage under federal law.
MULLAN, Idaho (AP) — A northern Idaho man who vanished during a weekend snowmobile outing says he had given up any hope of surviving when his friends found him, hypothermic and dehydrated, in a ravine in northwestern Montana. Barry Sadler of Mullan says he took a wrong turn on Sunday, the snow gave way and he ended up in a creek with his snowmobile on top of him. He had written goodbye notes before he was found Monday.
JEROME, Idaho (AP) — South-central Idaho officials say a 6-year-old girl who fell asleep on a school bus spent several hours alone before being spotted by firefighter wandering on a road. North Side Bus Co. officials say the bus driver has been fired for failing to do a post-trip inspection after parking at a bus barn Tuesday.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — A south-central Idaho woman who police say embezzled more than half a million dollars from the College of Southern Idaho has been charged with grand theft. The Times-News reports court records say Dawn Marie Orr in July told her boss and another school official she had taken money and had so much guilt she couldn't live with it any longer.
