This is Chris Redgrave for Zions Bank Speaking on Business.
After a successful career in the Marines, Tom Vidal was happy to return to civilian life. It was a great time with his wife, three kids and a successful career as an ad executive. Until he got stressed and found himself falling into bad habits, like picking up an extra 40 pounds. That's when he hired a personal trainer, and watched his military training kick back in. It was such a life-changing experience that he became a certified personal trainer and is continuing to pay it forward with his business Trainer Zone Fitness in Sandy.
At Trainer Zone Fitness Tom says it's about returning back to the basics to make the biggest impact on health and fitness. So, Tom focuses on strengthening natural movements of the body. This includes push/pull, bend/twist, lunge/squat and gait. Focusing on these provides better flexibility and mobility of the joints. This approach has worked so well, Tom was recently able to help a golfer strengthen her body and core, so her drive was lengthened by 15 yards after a few months of training.
Now in their second year of operation, clients at Trainer Zone Fitness span all ages, ranges and fitness levels. But Tom also works with rehab patients who have finished their physical therapy. If he has any concerns, Tom will speak to the therapist to discuss their limitations, then work within those limits.
Tom is so dedicated to his profession that he brought a personal friend, Casey, on board as his first client and trained him for free to help him make a major life transition. Over the course of 15 months, Casey lost 215 pounds and continues on his healthy journey today. Casey has become another trainer for Tom at Trainer Zone Fitness and was recently featured on several news outlets because of his incredible weight loss.
Tom explains that lasting weight loss has to become a commitment to a lifestyle, where you take a look at your relationship with food and daily routines to figure out how to change long-term.
