BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The two candidates running to be Idaho's next chief of elections faced off for the first time and differed on their views on elections. GOP state Rep. Lawerence Denney of Midvale differed from his opponent by maintaining his support of the Republican closed primary system that was implemented under Denney's leadership in 2011. Meanwhile his Democratic opponent, state Rep. Holli Woodings of Boise, says she will improve voter access and registration.

POCATELLO, Idaho (AP) — An eastern Idaho man authorities say fired at police officers during a high-speed chase before shooting himself and crashing into a mobile home has been identified. Police say 46-year-old Bryan Seward of Pocatello died Saturday following the chase through Pocatello.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Emails from University of Idaho officials show that football players from Western Michigan University knocked some locker room sinks loose, broke a trophy and caused other damage after their game against Idaho last month. The damage was bad enough that Idaho Athletic Director Rob Spear billed Western Michigan $500 for cleanup and repairs.

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A 31-year-old man who recently moved to Montana from Virginia died when the pickup truck he was driving collided with a semitrailer in southwestern Montana. The Gallatin County coroner's office says 31-year-old Kevin Bailey of Belgrade crossed into the path of a semitrailer Sunday. The driver of the semi, a 45-year-old man from Blackfoot, Idaho, was unable to avoid the collision. He was not injured.
