LOGAN — Utah State senior Chuckie Keeton was named to the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award watch list for the second time Wednesday, marking the first Aggie to appear on the list in multiple seasons.

Keeton joins 39 other quarterbacks on the watch list, including Florida State quarterback and defending O’Brien and Heisman Trophy winner Jameis Winston, BYU’s Taysom Hill, Nevada’s Cody Fajardo, Colorado State’s Garrett Grayson and Boise State’s Grant Hedrick.

The 6-foot-2, 200-pound senior from Houston has also earned honors as an All-Mountain West selection by the Athlon Sports and Phil Steele college football preview magazines, as well as watch lists for Heisman Pundit/CBSSports.com Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Award and the College Football Performance Awards Quarterback of the Year.

Keeton played in only six games as a junior in 2013, when he suffered a season-ending knee injury against BYU. In that shortened season, he led the Mountain West with 22.8 points and threw 17 touchdown passes. He threw five touchdown passes twice in his first five games, both wins against Air Force and Weber State.

The Davey O'Brien trophy is given annually to the nation's top college quarterback.

Quarterbacks from all 125 Football Bowl Subdivision schools are eligible for the Davey O’Brien Award until the 16 semifinalists are announced Nov. 3. Three finalists will be announced Nov. 24, and the award will be presented to the winner at the Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 11.

Utah State opens its season Aug. 31 at Tennessee, and will play its first home game a week later, Sept. 6, against Idaho State.
