Sgt. Bergdahl heading home... President considers options... Migrant kids shelter filling up

WASHINGTON (AP) — Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, recovering after five years as a Taliban captive, is on a plane heading back to the United States. The Pentagon says Bergdahl had left Germany on board a U.S. military aircraft and is expected to arrive at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, early tomorrow.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is weighing a range of short-term military options in Iraq, where an al-Qaida inspired insurgency has captured two Iraqi cities and is threatening to target Baghdad. Officials say putting American troops back on the ground is not an option. Iraq has faced resurgent violence since the U.S. military withdrew in late 2011.

PORT HUENEME, Calif. (AP) — Officials expect a temporary shelter for migrant children on a California military base could fill up next week. The shelter in Ventura County is one of three planned for military bases in California, Oklahoma and Texas following a spike in the number of children caught illegally crossing the border, mostly from Central America.

PHOENIX (AP) — A priest was shot and killed and another was injured at a Roman Catholic church in downtown Phoenix, setting off an intense search for suspects and clues. Police have no suspects at this point. They are searching the neighborhood, interviewing the injured priest and examining physical evidence from the scene.

FRESNO, Calif. (AP) — Police say they've made an arrest in the slaying of a central California man stabbed hours after he was freed from jail because of a jury's mistake. The suspect is identified as the boyfriend of the man's sister. The jury had signed a form saying Bobby Lee Pearson was not guilty of a burglary. The judge later learned the jurors actually couldn't agree, but it was too late to reverse the verdict and Pearson was released.
