NEW YORK (AP) — There's no new Triple Crown winner this year. Tonalist has won the Belmont Stakes. Favorite California Chrome finished far back in a tie for fourth. Chrome and jockey Victor Espinoza lost the 1 1/2-mile race today at Belmont Park in New York, where tens of thousands of fans hoped to see history. Affirmed was the last horse to win the Triple Crown in 1978.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says President Barack Obama is readying new executive steps to help Americans who are struggling to pay off their student debt. Among the steps Obama plans to announce Monday is the expansion of an existing program that prevents borrowers from having to pay more than 10 percent of their monthly income in student loan payments.

WINSTON-SALEM, North Carolina (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama says Maya Angelou was the first person who let her know she could be a strong, powerful and smart black woman. She says Angelou's poem "Phenomenal Woman" celebrated "black women's beauty like no one had ever dared to before." A memorial service for Angelou, who died last week at the age of 86, was held today at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Officials say a series of car bombs exploded across Iraq's capital Saturday night, killing at least 52 people. The attacks largely focused on Shiite neighborhoods. The first took place in Baghdad's western district, killing nine people and wounding 22. Later on, seven car bombs in different parts of Baghdad killed at least 41 and wounded 62. A roadside bomb also killed two people and wounded six.

KINSHASA, Congo (AP) — An official says at least 34 people, including many women and children, have been killed in a nighttime attack in eastern Congo At least 27 others were hurt. A provincial interior minister says the massacre by the unidentified assailants took place in Mutarule late Friday. A church was also targeted.
