SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Federal prosecutors are defending their case against a Utah man acquitted in a state court of killing a sheriff's deputy. The U.S. Attorney's Office argues in court documents filed yesterday that Roberto Roman can be tried on the dozen charges he faces from the 2010 shooting of a Millard County deputy during a traffic stop. Roman has argued that he was already tried for the same crime in state court, and the federal case constitutes double jeopardy, which is prohibited by the U.S. Constitution.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Supreme Court has agreed to hear the case of a woman who is suing a polygamous trust, saying she was forced to marry her 21-year-old cousin years ago at age 14. The Salt Lake Tribune reports the woman is seeking up to $40 million in the suit naming the FLDS Church and its imprisoned leader Warren Jeffs. It also targets a state-run trust overseeing land and property in Hildale, Utah, and Colorado City, Arizona.

DRAPER, Utah (AP) — Parents of students at Draper Park Middle School are demanding to know why they weren't told about an investigation of a bus driver accused of sexually abusing a special needs girl. The Deseret News reports a district spokeswoman says officials did not want to compromise an active police investigation.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A West Valley City woman has been ordered to stand trial in the stabbing death of her boyfriend during a Labor Day barbecue. Thu Huong Thi Nguygen (WIN') faces up to life in prison if convicted. Witnesses testified at a hearing yesterday that Nguyen and Thai Van Le, had been fighting for hours before the stabbing.
