PALO ALTO, Calif. — At 32 years old, Kyle Beckerman has never represented his country in a World Cup.

Until now.

Beckerman and Real Salt Lake teammate Nick Rimando were named as two of 23 players on the final roster for the U.S. men's national team for the World Cup in Brazil, head coach Jurgen Klinsmann announced Thursday at the pre-World Cup training camp at Stanford University.

The captain at RSL, Beckerman could make his first-ever appearance against Ghana, Portugal or Germany this summer. Rimando, who is listed as the third goalkeeper on the roster, is unlikely to make an appearance — barring injury — behind English Premier League stalwarts Tim Howard and Brad Guzan.

Beckerman joins eight other midfielders on the roster, including U.S. stars Michael Bradley of Toronto FC, Graham Zusi of Sporting Kansas City and Jermaine Jones of Turkey's Besiktas.

With two players on the roster, Real Salt Lake is tied for the most from one team with the Seattle Sounders (Clint Dempsey and DeAndre Yedlin) and Sporting KC (Zusi and Matt Besler). Notable omissions from the roster include longtime U.S. star Landon Donovan of the LA Galaxy and striker Terrence Boyd, who plays in Austria. Donovan, the all-time leading goal scorer for the United States, was angling for his fourth-straight World Cup appearance. The LA Galaxy striker has 57 goals in 156 appearances for the national team.
