WASHINGTON (AP) — Scientists say the devastating wildfires scorching Southern California offer a glimpse of a warmer and more fiery future. Study author Philip Dennison of the University of Utah said the areas that are burning the most are the driest and climate change is a main factor. He said as the climate warms, there will be more fires.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker wants to resurrect firing squads as a method of execution after a botched lethal injection in Oklahoma. Republican Rep. Paul Ray says firing squads would be a quick and humane way to put someone to death, especially as lawsuits and drug shortages have complicated lethal injections. Ray plans to introduce his proposal during Utah's next legislative session in January.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) —Three people are dead after a weekend crash along Interstate 80 in Salt Lake City. The UHP says the car was seen speeding away from a parking garage at Salt Lake City International Airport Saturday morning and a short time later it ran off the interstate and crashed into a retention pond. The driver was critically injured.

BEAVER, Utah (AP) — A Tennessee woman has been charged with first-degree murder in the stabbing death of her husband at a Beaver County motel. Dorothy Searcy was charged Friday, two days after her husband Reginald Searcy was stabbed with a steak knife during a domestic dispute in their motel room. Sheriff Cameron Noel says the couple had been panhandling in Beaver since their car broke down about a week ago.
