SALT LAKE CITY — Day four of the Utes fall camp brought the best practice overall the team has seen and some injuries to the linebackers.
Beginning with the linebackers, Reshawn Hooker sustained another concussion on Wednesday, his third concussion in two years.
That will force Hooker to basically retire from football. This is frustrating coming off the news yesterday that the Utes were going to move him to safety due to Tevin Carter having not made it to cam yet.
The other linebacker that will potentially miss some time is the only four-year starter on the roster. Brian Blechen has had a history of tendonitis in his knees, specifically the right knee, and it is really bothering him.
Head Coach Kyle Whittingham said about Blechen, "He's still hurting. He got a few reps in today, He's got to get some work done to be ready to play." Whittingham elaborated on his status, "We're trying to manage his situation right now but is nowhere near, he's about 60%."
I asked him if there is a possibility that he won't play and coach said, "he's got a red-shirt year, we haven't even addressed that yet with him or talked about that, it's too early, but if we get much further down the road and he isn't making any improvement, that's something we may have to look at."
