If you're weary of eating at soul-killing chain restaurants, I've got a nifty alternative for you: How about supper in a yurt? One of the most memorable and unique dining experiences you could ever have is up at The Yurt at Solitude Mountain Resort in Big Cottonwood Canyon. In case you're unfamiliar, a yurt is a big traditional Mongolian dwelling made from wood and canvas. The Yurt at Solitude is a warm, comfy & cozy restaurant that you get to via snowshoes, cross-country skis, or a walk through the woods. Think of it as the place Genghis Kahn would have dropped into for a gourmet meal.

Once you're there, you'll be treated to a leisurely 5-course meal, prepared by Executive Chef Matt Barrigar of Solitude's St. Bernard's restaurant. The chef and cooks do much of the prep work down at St. Bernard's and then haul the food for final cooking by snowmobiles up to The Yurt.

The Yurt at Solitude accommodates up to 20 guests, so it's a terrific substitute for the traditional birthday, anniversary, or office party. And maybe best of all, up the Solitude's Yurt you'll actually discover real Solitude: No TV's, radio's, cell phones or other annoying distractions. Dining at The Yurt at Solitude, it's just you, friends and family, delicious food, and nature: which is the best dining location of all.
