SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Columbus rookie Jason Garey scored his first career goal and extended Real Salt Lake's winless streak to 18 games with a goal in the 70th minute of the Crew's 1-nothing victory tonight.
Columbus defender Ezra Hendrickson carried a ball forward and played it to a streaking Garey, who was in all alone against Real goalkeeper Scott Garlick.
Real had better scoring opportunities than the Crew, but couldn't get the ball in the net.
Salt Lake's Jeff Cunningham caught goalkeeper Jon Busch out of position in the 29th minute, but his shot hit the crossbar.
The Crew's Jose Retiz received a red card, in the 85th minute, for a hard hit on Mehdi Ballouchy.
Real falls to oh-5-and-1. Columbus is 2-3-and-1.
